Isaac Hall Manning's History of the U.N.C. School of Medicine, 1879-1937; 1940

Isaac Hall Manning was the dean of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine from 1905 to 1933. The collection is an unpublished, annotated typescript in two volumes, written by Manning circa 1940. The volumes document the development of the medical school from its beginning as a two-year program through Dean Charles Staples Mangum's administration from 1933 to 1937. Manning offered his personal opinions on various events including the consolidation of the university, the restructuring of the health sciences program, the effort from 1921 to 1923 to expand the school from a two-year to a four-year program, and his resignation as dean in 1933. by W.
